In 2022, the GDP of Bao'an District was 470.2 billion yuan (US$64.3 billion) with a year-on-year growth of 3.5%. Some 5,120 industrial enterprises in Bao'an, each with annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan, achieved a total output value of 951.77 billion yuan. The district is home to over 7,061 national high-tech enterprises, ranking first among China's districts and counties for six consecutive years. It also boasts 135 national "small giant" enterprises and 260 provincial small and medium-sized companies engaged in specialized, sophisticated and innovative fields, both ranking first in Shenzhen. And there are 71 listed companies in Bao'an with a total market value of over 1 trillion yuan. Bao'an is the only five-star industrial internet demonstration base accredited by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for two consecutive years. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) SME Forum is permanently located in Bao'an.
The total R&D investment accounts for 4.82% of the GDP. The total number of patents authorized reached 70,000, ranking first in the country's districts and counties. The district is home to 17 State-level sci-tech incubators, ranking first in the city.
With "422133" as the main development framework, Bao'an will ensure the development of advanced manufacturing by providing high-quality industrial space in a bid to make enough space and land available for use for quality enterprises.
The "422133" framework refers to four key manufacturing areas; two headquarters bases; two "main engines," two central areas; one municipal renovation of the State Highway 107 (Bao'an section); three new symbols — transportation, broad investment promotion, and industrial park upgrading; and three basic livelihood projects — education, medicare, and grass-roots governance.
